Shannon to lead COM. Jack Shannon of Belton was elected president of the Texas Campers on Mission organization during the fall rally Sept. 30-Oct. 2 at Plains Assembly near Floydada. Shannon succeeds Leon Gerault of Flower Mound. Robert Anderson of Boling was elected first vice president; Willie McCleod of Odessa, second vice president; and Patsy Phend of Hamshire, secretary-treasurer. James Hatley of Grapevine was re-elected chaplain. During the past year, 919 people contributed 45,369 hours of work on various projects through Campers on Mission.

Wyatt receives communicator award. Kenneth Wyatt, a Tulia artist and retired Methodist minister, received this year's Texas Baptist Communication Award Oct. 11. The award is presented annually by the Baptist General Convention of Texas to an individual within the communication field, of any religious denomination, who has made significant contributions to the religious life of Texas.

LifeWay opens new Dallas store. LifeWay Christian Stores will open its newest store at the Dallas Galleria in late October. The store will be LifeWay's 85th nationwide and the chain's sixth in the Dallas area. The new store is part of a nationwide expansion of the chain, operated by LifeWay Christian Resources of the Southern Baptist Convention.

Fire damages Fort Worth church. A three-alarm fire destroyed a recreation and educational building at Hulen Street Baptist Church in Fort Worth Oct. 5. The afternoon fire completely consumed the structure, which was separate from a newer building where the church's sanctuary and offices are located. Fire officials determined the blaze was sparked by a problem in the main electrical cabinet.

Retiree ministers to gather. The third annual fellowship dinner for retired Texas Baptist ministers is scheduled for Monday, Nov. 8, at 5 p.m. at the El Paso Art Museum. Both Bill Pinson, retiring executive director of the Baptist General Convention of Texas, and Charles Wade, his successor, will be in attendance. Tickets are $5 each and may be obtained by writing to the BGCT Human Welfare Coordinating Board, 333 N. Washington, Dallas 75246-1798.

Gallup to receive honor at DBU. Noted pollster George Gallup Jr. will be the featured speaker at Dallas Baptist University's fall convocation Nov. 3 at 10 a.m. He also will receive an honorary doctor of divinity degree from the university.
