___Anniversaries
___bluebull Bluff Dale Church in Bluff Dale will celebrate its 125th anniversary Oct. 24. Former Pastor Richard Jackson will preach the morning service, followed by a fellowship luncheon. ___bluebull Avondale Church in Sweetwater will celebrate its 50th anniversary Oct. 24. Since church records were destroyed in a fire, former members are asked to send information about themselves even if they are unable to attend. ___bluebull Park Cities Church in Dallas will celebrate its 60th anniversary Oct. 24. Former Pastor James Pleitz will parti-cipate in the morning services. During the services, the church's new history book, "There Ought to be a Church," will be dedicated to wives of the church's five pastors. A barbecue dinner will begin at noon. ___bluebull Mount Olive Missionary Church in Fort Worth is having a number of special services in preparation for its annual homecoming. C.B.T. Smith, pastor emeritus of Golden Gate Church in Dallas, will preach Oct. 24, and a pre-homecoming musical will begin at 4 p.m. that afternoon. Revival meetings with Dennis Jones, pastor of Gethsemane Church in Houston, will be held at 7 p.m. Nov. 10-12. Homecoming services will be Nov. 14, with Harold Fort of New Birth Church in Houston, Tim Woods of Hopewell Church in Birmingham, Ala., and Vincent Parker of Golden Gate Church in Dallas leading services. ___Deaths
___bluebull William Perdue, 72, Oct. 10 in Canyon Lake. Perdue, pastor of Cranes Mill Church in Canyon Lake for the past five years, had been in the ministry 52 years. Among other churches he served as pastor are Grandview Church in El Paso and Baptist Temple in San Antonio. A naval veteran of World War II, he had served as a trustee of the Southern Baptist Convention Home Mission Board and as chairman of the State Missions Commission of the Baptist General Convention of Texas. He is survived by his wife, Charlene; sons, William, David, Robert and Jimmy; daughter, Judy Ann; brother, Kenneth; sisters, Nancy and Faye; and 17 grandchildren.
___bluebull Lester Bell, 80, Oct. 12 in Waco. Bell was licensed to the ministry in 1936 at First Church in Pittsburg and ordained at First Church in Longview in 1938. After serving as pastor of several Texas and Oklahoma churches, he and his wife, B Wayne, became missionaries to Brazil in 1950. During his 25 years in Brazil, he worked in evangelism and served as director of the Deter Bible Institute, was general secretary of the State Baptist Convention of Parana, and taught at the South Brazil Baptist Seminary and the Women's Bible Institute. He was the first general secretary to the Executive Board of the Brazilian Baptist Convention. He later taught at Baylor University, before going to Portugal to direct the seminary there as a missionary. He was pastor of several Texas churches as well as one in Spain and another in Portugal. Fairview Church in Clifton was his final pastorate in 1995. Since that time, he and his wife have been members of First Church in Waco. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, B Wayne; sons, Carl, David, Philip and Lester; brothers, Hubert and Robert; eight grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

___bluebull Hayden Goodnight, deacon emeritus at Shadow Hills Church in Lubbock, celebrated his 100th birthday Oct. 18. Goodnight has served First Church in Memphis, Temple Church in Amarillo, First Church in Shallowater and Shadow Hills Church as deacon.
___bluebull First Church in Dumas will host Columbine Redemption Oct. 23 at the high school football stadium. Darrell Scott, father of Rachel Scott, will share his daughter's story. Jerry Drace, Southern Baptist evangelist, also will speak. Drace also will preach at the church Oct. 24. Scott Willingham is pastor.
___bluebull Harpist Greg Buchanan will be in concert at Trinity Church in San Antonio Oct. 24 at 7 p.m. No admission will be charged, but an offering will be taken. Buckner Fanning is pastor.

___bluebull A gospel music benefit has been set for Oct. 30 to help Ron Ratliff, pastor of South Euless Baptist Church in Euless. Ratliff has been diagnosed with leukemia, and medical expenses have become enormous in recent months. The benefit will be held at the church, beginning at 6 p.m. Groups to perform include Earley Praises, The Reid Family, Jericho Road Quartet, New Dawning and 1 A Chord. A pie and cake auction is planned for intermission. No admission will be charged, but people attending are asked to bring a donation. Groups may call (972) 263-6440 to reserve pews.
