___The annual Sunday School high attendance day for Texas Baptists has a new name, a new emphasis and a record goal on the eve of the new millennium.
___Great Day in the Morning has changed its name to Great Day Texas.
___It has expanded from a single high attendance day to encompass a whole week as Texas Baptist churches attempt to meet the needs of various communities.
___It also has a record goal: 777,777 attending Bible study sometime during the week of Oct. 25-31.
___"Last year was the 25th anniversary of Great Day in the Morning, and Texas Baptist churches set a record attendance of 760,712 on the last Sunday in October 1998," said Phil Miller, Sunday School consultant with the Baptist General Convention of Texas.
___Since then, however, the program has been re-evaluated to see how it could be strengthened, leading to the new name and new emphasis.
___"We had a number of questions from churches who were doing Bible study at times other than Sunday morning and at sites other than the church building," he said. "They wondered how they could count their off-site classes as part of the total.
___"The change in emphasis is to help churches and missions catch the vision of providing Bible study for anyone, anywhere, any day of the week," Miller said. "We want to encourage our churches to move off-campus and to hold Bible study in a variety of settings to meet the needs of people across the state."
