___HENDERSON--Sarah Smith died as she lived--bringing people to faith in Jesus.
___Smith died Oct. 24 at First Baptist Church in Henderson as she taught the women's Sunday School class she had led for more than 30 years. She had shared with her class a prayer request for a woman who needed to trust Christ.
___Smith died as she wrote the name "Brenda" on the board.
___"One of our members said, 'It was such an important prayer request, Sarah took it personally to the Lord,'" Pastor Jere Wilson said. "So many have said it now, I'm not sure who said it first, but I wish it had been me. It's just so appropriate for the kind of lady she was."
___Smith's children, Wilson said, concurred that her Sunday School class was the right place for her to make the transition from Earth to heaven.
___"They all said, 'If mother could have picked how she was going to go, that would have been it, standing before her Sunday School class,'" Wilson said.
___Smith was the wife of Hugh Smith, pastor of First Baptist Church from 1966 to1982. He died in 1988. A retired English teacher, she is survived by her sons, Lawson and Holland; a daughter, Christina; and four grandchildren.
