Glazener, Peña and Ballou
elected to BGCT office by acclamation
___EL PASO--A veteran pastor, a Hispanic director of missions and a minister of education were elected without opposition to the top offices of the Baptist General Convention of Texas Nov. 8.
___Clyde Glazener, pastor of Gambrell Street Baptist Church in Fort Worth and outgoing chairman of the BGCT Executive Board, was elected convention president by acclamation.

___He will hold a unique dual role for the next month-and-a-half because as BGCT president he took office immediately upon conclusion of the annual session, but as outgoing chairman of the Executive Board he serves through the end of December.
___Glazener, 64, has served Gambrell Street since 1992. An Oklahoma native, he previously was pastor of Southside Baptist Church in Tempe, Ariz.; Calvary Baptist Church in Little Rock, Ark.; and First Baptist Church of Clayton, Okla. He also taught Greek and New Testament courses at Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Fort Worth from 1974 to 1980.
___He earned the master of divinity and doctor of theology degrees from Southwestern Seminary, and a bachelor's degree from Oklahoma Baptist University.
___He and Kaye, his wife of 43 years, are the parents of five adult children.
___Lorenzo Peña, director of missions for El Paso Baptist Association, was elected first vice president, also without opposition.
___Peña, 48, is a Ballinger native and became Texas Baptists' first Hispanic director of missions in 1993. He previously served as associate director of the association, as associate pastor of Vista del Sol Baptist Church in El Paso, as minister of missions and ministries at Hispana Baptist Church in El Paso, as minister of religious education at Primera Iglesia Bautista in San Angelo, as associate education director for Tarrant Baptist Association and as minister of religious education at Primera Iglesia Bautista in Austin.
___He has been active in BGCT work, most recently serving on the BGCT Committee on Baptist Integrity.
___Peña earned the master of religious education degree from Southwestern Seminary and the bachelor of science degree from Angelo State University.
___He and his wife, the former Santa Trevino, are the parents of two sons.
___Bill Ballou, minister with adults and senior adults at First Baptist Church of Abilene, was elected second vice president.
___Prior to joining the Abilene church's staff in 1996, he served as minister of education at First Baptist Church of Amarillo, Travis Avenue Baptist Church of Fort Worth and Richmond Plaza Baptist Church of Bellaire. He also previously was pastor of Calvary Baptist Church in Rosenberg.
___Ballou, 60, earned the master of religious education degree from Southwestern Seminary and bachelor of arts degree from Baylor University.
___He and his wife, Avonnell, are the parents of two adult children.
___The convention's three other officers were re-elected by acclamation.
___They are Roger Hall of Dallas, recording secretary; Irby Cox of Grand Prairie, registration secretary; and Eugene Greer Jr. of Dallas, secretary of the corporation.
