Resolutions pass easily
___EL PASO--With no discussion and little opposition, messengers adopted five resolutions during the annual session of the Baptist General Convention of Texas Nov. 9.

___With rapidity, votes were taken to approve resolutions on appreciation to the host city, appreciation to convention officers and appreciation to Executive Director Bill Pinson, who is retiring Jan. 31.
___Also adopted was a resolution celebrating the 40th anniversary of the unification of the Mexican Baptist Convention--now the Hispanic Baptist Convention--and the BGCT.
___It noted Hispanic Baptists "contribute uniqueness and distinctiveness to the work of God in Texas" and "continue to develop new and innovative strategies for doing God's work."
___A final resolution on violence addressed the shootings at Wedgwood Baptist Church in Fort Worth Sept. 15.
___It noted that violence "has invaded every area of our lives--homes, workplaces, schools, communities." Yet "the gospel calls us away from violence and toward peacemaking," it added.
___The resolution called on Texas Baptists to continue praying for the victims and survivors of the Fort Worth tragedy. It further urged prayer "for God's deliverance from the violence which has infected our nation and world."
___Wedgwood Pastor Al Meredith spoke to messengers during the scheduled time for memorials. He thanked Texas Baptists for being like family during the tragedy and pleaded for continued prayer support, explaining that the hardest work of grieving is just beginning.
