GRAND PARKWAY CHURCH in Houston recently broke ground on its first building, a 23,000-square-foot multi-purpose building. Malcolm Grainger will retire at Castle Hills First Church in San Antonio Dec. 1 after 30 years of ministry in the church. Grainger was minister of music for 22 years and for the last eight years has been minister of pastoral care. A retirement celebration will be held Dec. 12 at 6 p.m.

Dick Baker, 52, Nov. 12. Baker, a Christian film writer, director, producer and playwright, was employed on many occasions by the Baptist General Convention of Texas to transfer the work of the convention's ministry to film. He is survived by his father, BO Baker; brother, David; and sister, Lisa.

Virginia Clawson, 73, Nov. 5 in Conroe. The author of two books, she also was a pianist, artist, Sunday School teacher and a member of First Church in Conroe for the past 23 years. She was recognized as one of 20 outstanding women of the Southern Baptist Convention by the Pastors' Wives' Conference. She is survived by her husband of 53 years, evangelist Tom Clawson; daughters, Cynthia and Patti; son, Tommy; and six grandchildren.

New Hope Christian Center in Fort Worth will hold its annual Thanksgiving Bible Conference Nov. 26-28. Angelo Metropollis of Total Member Evangelism will speak at 7:30 p.m. Friday and at 9 a.m Saturday. Josh Hunt will speak at 2 p.m. Saturday about how to double your Sunday School and church. Buddy Bell of Ministry of Helps International will speak at 10:30 a.m. and 6 p.m. Sunday. James Brown is pastor.

First Church in McKinney will present its annual Christmas Journey Dec. 2-4 from 6-10 p.m. The production consists of 14 scenes that are viewed from vehicles. The drama takes 25 minutes to drive through. The church will also provide four trailers loaded with hay or rides in church vans. Buses cannot be accommodated due to sharp turns. Each vehicle will be provided an audio tape to narrate the scenes. Tape players will be provided if needed. Admission is free, but donations of clothes and toys for the less fortunate will be accepted at the entrance. Minister of music Myron Wilson coordinates more than 350 volunteers necessary to make the event possible.
