Potter to head BGCT church bond service

___Ivan Potter has been elected president of Texas Baptist Financial Services Inc., a not-for profit corporation to provide a church bond service for Texas Baptist churches.

___Potter succeeds Bruce Bowles, who will become president emeritus and will continue to work with the corporation.
___"We want to continue the course that Bruce Bowles has steered us on, and that is one of doing what is best for the local church," Potter said.
___Texas Baptist Financial Services will continue to work closely with its sister corporation, the Baptist Church Loan Corp., to offer Texas Baptist churches a choice of variable-rate mortgages through the loan corporation or long-term fixed-rate financing through the bond company, Potter said.
___The announcement of Potter's election as president was made by Milton McGee of Henderson, chairman of Texas Baptist Financial Services.
___Potter, of Hurst, joined the bonding corporation when it was launched Jan. 1, 1997. He has been vice president of marketing.
___Previously, Potter worked with A.B. Culberson, a church finance organization, for six years. He also was vice president of church finance for Share Inc., a church bond firm, and worked in the insurance industry.
___During his career in church finance, Potter has helped 138 churches raise more than $84 million. During his time with Texas Baptist Financial Services, he has helped Texas Baptist churches raise in excess of $13 million.
___Potter is a native of Tennessee and a graduate of Carson-Newman College. He was a church staff member after receiving his master of religious education degree from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary.
___His wife, Lynn, is a graphic designer who operates her own business.
___They are members of Memorial Baptist Church in Grapevine.
