Baptist Briefs ___ National CP up for quarter. Gifts to the Southern Baptist Convention's Cooperative Program increased nearly 19 percent in the first quarter of the fiscal year compared to the same period last year. Through the end of December, gifts totaled $39.96 million, up $4.4 million or 12.37 percent. Designated gifts also were up about 11 percent.
___ Four find Christ at UN event. Four people professed faith in Christ as Savior during an open house sponsored at the United Nations Dec. 17 by the Southern Baptist Convention's North American Mission Board.
___ Schools form consortium. Eleven Baptist schools have become charter members of a new Consortium of Theological Schools Partnering with CBF. All the schools relate in some way to the Cooperative Baptist Fellowship. Organizers said the new consortium will enhance cooperation and communication. Participating schools include Baptist studies programs at Duke Divinity School, Brite Divinity School at Texas Christian University and Candler School of Theology at Emory University; divinity schools at Campbell, Gardner-Webb, Hardin-Simmons, Mercer and Wake Forest universities; Baptist Theological Seminary at Richmond; Central Baptist Theological Seminary; and Truett Theological Seminary at Baylor University.
___ More students reached. More than 275,000 college students were reached last year by Southern Baptist student ministry programs on campuses, according to LifeWay Christian Resources. That's 10 percent more than Baptist campus ministries reached the previous year. More than 7,200 college students professed faith in Christ through these programs last year.
