Texans urged to join 60-day prayer effort
___Texas Baptists will join Christians from a variety of denominations to spend 40 days praying and fasting for the nation, according to Eddie Smith, a former Texas Baptist pastor and evangelist.
___PrayUSA '99 will involve millions of Americans in daily prayer and fasting for the nation's spiritual welfare, from Ash Wednesday, Feb. 17, through Palm Sunday, March 28, Smith explained.
___PrayUSA is an initiative of Mission America, a coalition of about 170,000 churches, denominations and parachurch organizations.
___This year's PrayUSA effort will provide a "prayer foundation" for mailing the Christian gospel to American homes during Easter weekend and for 50 days of personal witnessing that will follow the mailing, Smith said.
___Participants also will be asked to fast during the endeavor, he added.
