Volunteers needed for Hong Kong
___FORT WORTH--Hong Kong Baptists have issued an urgent appeal for Texas Baptists to help evangelize their city this summer, reported Dub Jackson, Asia crusade coordinator for the Southern Baptist Interna-tional Mission Board.
___Hong Kong's recent transfer from British to Chinese control has left Christians there concerned about their ability to reach their people for Christ, Jackson said.
___Jackson and Bill Fudge, the mission board's area director for Southeast Asia, recently met with the president and general secretary of the Hong Kong Baptist Convention.
___The Hong Kong Baptists asked Jackson to organize 20 to 40 evangelistic teams of eight to 10 members each. They are to work in Hong Kong from July 29 through Aug. 9.
___"It is late," Jackson said of the plea for help. "But because of the urgency in Hong Kong, we have given them priority over every other Asian request."
___Any Christian willing to be led can be used, Jackson said. "We need you now."
___Cost for the trip is $1,895.
___Jackson also is coordinating several other trips to Asia, including Taiwan, Nov. 5-15, 1999, and the spring of 2000; Japan, June 14-27, 2000; and Korea, Oct 11-24, 2000.
___Call the IMB partnership evangelism office at Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, (817) 923-1921, ext. 4871.
