___ Emeritus missionary dies. Edyth Boyd Stuart, emeritus missionary to China, Hawaii and Japan with the Southern Baptist International Mission Board, died Feb. 22. She was 93. A native of Wylie, Stuart was appointed as a missionary to China in 1935. She was a graduate of Mary Hardin-Baylor College and Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary. She is survived by her husband, Malcolm, and two sons, Malcolm Jr. and Paul.

___ Youth Lab coming. As the 1999 Youth Ministry Lab says hello to the new millennium, it says goodbye to a professor who has worked with the lab for 25 years. The 31st annual youth lab, a training event for youth ministers, will be held at Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary April 16-18. This will be the final conference led by Philip Briggs, distinguished professor of youth education and church recreation. He has served as faculty adviser for the conference since 1973. ___ SBC leaders meet with Republicans. Southern Baptist Convention President Paige Patterson and Richard Land, president of the SBC's Ethics & Religious Liberty Commission, met with members of Congress--all Republican--Feb. 25 to express public-policy concerns and pray. High on the agenda was concern about overriding the presidential veto of a ban on so-called "partial-birth abortions." The group of congressmen visited included three of the House managers of the recent impeachment trial against President Clinton. Senators visited included Trent Lott of Mississippi, Dick Armey of Texas, Don Nickles of Oklahoma, Tom DeLay of Texas and Jesse Helms of North Carolina. House members visited included J.C. Watts of Oklahoma, Roy Blunt of Missouri, Charles Canaday of Florida, Tom Coburn of Oklahoma, Lindsey Graham of South Carolina, Asa Hutchinson of Arkansas and Steve Largent of Oklahoma.

___ Ministers' wives program planned. The annual luncheon of the Ministers' Wives Conference, held during the Southern Baptist Convention annual meeting, will feature Christian author Jill Briscoe of Brookfield, Wis. ___ Texas missionary dies. Brenda Conwell Norville, a native of Munday, died Feb. 15 in Cooper City, Fla., after a long battle with brain cancer. Norville had been a Southern Baptist missionary in the Caribbean along with her husband, Buddy, since 1989. The couple earlier served in the Ivory Coast, Liberia and El Paso. Their work supporting churches in the Caribbean was conducted from Hollywood, Fla. She is survived by her husband and two sons, Scott Norville of Fort Worth and Todd Norville of New York City.
