Around the State
___Latham Springs Encampment will be the site of the 60+ Senior Adult Camp March 25.
___Featured speakers are Winfred Moore, pastor emeritus of First Church in Amarillo; Jerry Smith of First Church in Clifton; and Tim Randolph, director of missions for Tri-Rivers Association. John Ward will direct the congregational singing. The Golden Rockers Senior Adult Choir from Corsicana and the Golden Heights Senior Singers from Temple will be featured. Registration is at

___ Carol Hill has been selected to head the speech-language pathology department at Hardin-Simmons University. She joined the HSU faculty in January 1998.

___Retiring
___ Wilton Robinson has retired after 43 years of ministry. He served churches in Mexia, Sulphur Springs, Katy, Dallas, Kilgore, Port Arthur, Conroe and Harlingen. He may be reached at 1503 Porter Road, Conroe 77301.

___Deaths
___ James Thomas, 86, Longview. Thomas, a retired pastor, had served churches in Texas and Arkansas for 45 years. He helped start mission churches that later became Green Acres Church in Tyler and Northside Church in Longview. He also received many awards for his poetry. He was a member of New Hope Church in Marshall. His wife, Lois; four sons; two daughters; 25 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren survive him.

___ Christoval Church in Christoval will dedicate its enlarged and remodeled sanctuary, as well as additional educational space, March 21 at 2:30 p.m. Garry Bivins, pastor of First Church in Robert Lee, and Donnie Rouse, pastor of Immanuel Church in Talpa, will be the featured speakers. ___ Park Cities Church in Dallas has invited William Moyers, son of television commentator Bill Moyers and vice president of public affairs for the Hazelden Foundation, to speak on the topic "The Great Awakening," March 21 from 4:30 to 7 p.m. The first 90 minutes will be a history of alcoholism and drug dependency in America. The last will be Moyers' personal testimony of how faith allowed him to overcome his addictions. Jim Denison is the pastor.
___ Park Cities Church in Dallas will present three performances of "The Promise" on March 24, 25 and 26. The performances will begin at 7 p.m. each evening. The production is a musical based on the biblical account of the life, ministry, resurrection and ascension of Jesus Christ. There is no admission charge.
