___ Patterson calls for kinder Christians. Southern Baptist Convention President Paige Patterson, an architect of the conservative movement that threw the denomination into conflict for nearly 20 years, told a Texas audience last week that Christians should be kinder than they often are. "One of the tragedies in our world today is that there are conservative, Bible-believing Christians whose lives do not match their professions" of faith, Patterson said in a message at the SBC Ethics & Religious Liberty Commission annual seminar in Austin. He expressed concern with those "who are often unkind, uncharitable and un-Christlike in how they express the gospel and how they establish the mandate of God."
