Baylor regents OK two Truett degrees
___WACO--The doctor of ministry degree and a joint master of divinity/master of music degree will be offered by Truett Theological Seminary at Baylor University.
___The university's board of regents approved the new degree offerings Feb. 12. Both programs will begin next fall.
___Terry York, associate professor of Christian ministry, will direct the doctor of ministry program. The doctor of ministry is a seminar-based study program designed for experienced ministers.
___Addition of the doctor of ministry degree "represents another stage in our maturation as a young seminary," said Truett Dean Brad Creed.
___"It's a direct response to the encouragement we've received from our constituency, from people out in the fields and churches," added York. "It also presents an exciting challenge for Truett by creating an additional avenue for influence and training in churches in Texas and around the world."
___The initial class of doctor of ministry students is projected to number 15-20 and peak at about 30, Creed and York said.
___The joint master of divinity/master of music degree is a unique combination made possible by Truett's position within Baylor University, Creed said. Faculty from both the seminary and the university's School of Music have developed the degree, he said.
___In other business, the Baylor regents cleared the way for fund-raising to begin on two capital projects.
___Completion of the Grant Teaff Athletic Complex will include a skybox/press box renovation and expansion, renovations to the Floyd Casey Stadium scoreboard, landscaping and parking improvements and completion of the Casey Athletic Building.
___The second project will provide an 18,000-square-foot addition to the Rogers Engineering and Computer Science Building.
