ERLC will discontinue annual seminars
___AUSTIN (ABP)--At the conclusion of its annual seminar held this year in Austin, the Southern Baptist Ethics & Religious Liberty Commission voted to discontinue the meetings due to low attendance.
___This year's seminar, held March 1-3 at Great Hills Bap-tist Church in Austin, was well received but not well attended, said Barrett Duke, director of denominational relations.
___"It was a good meeting, but the attendance was not good," Duke said. "We did more to promote this seminar than we had done in the past."
___No estimate was given of this year's registration.
___Duke said the annual seminar is no longer an effective way to provide Southern Baptists information on moral and social issues, noting his agency has done "everything we could to increase attendance."
___Highlights of this year's conference featured remarks by Texas Gov. George W. Bush, addresses by ERLC President Richard Land and SBC President Paige Patterson and spee-ches on topics including persecution of Christians, pornography and evangelism.
