| Every Texas Baptist can be a positive part of the committee's process in several ways: ___ Pray for them. The Baptists of Texas can play a major role in the search process by praying for the members of the committee. One focus of prayer can be for each member of the committee to continue to trust the Lord, lean not unto his or her own understanding, acknowledge God in all ways, and allow God to direct the process and outcome. ___ Communicate with them. The committee will consult with many Texas Baptist people and groups, following the Bible's advice that there is wisdom in many counselors. The groups that make up the family of Baptists in Texas are numerous and diverse. While the committee will learn much by consulting with and listening to these members of the family, they also will be open to hear from any Texas Baptist, not only for people to be considered but for the profile of the executive director. Communica-tion can be directed to any member of the committee. Bill Brian, the chair of the committee, has invited input to be sent to him at P. O. Box 30131, Amarillo, 79120. ___ Expect God's will to be done. As Baptists, our opinions will vary on composition of the committee, but as God's people, we can pray for the members and trust that they will allow God to direct their deliberation. The decision is too important for any agenda to prevail except what is best for the advancement of the kingdom of God through the Baptist General Convention of Texas. The responsibility is too great for any motive other than what is best for the whole of the Texas Baptist family. To prejudge this effort is to demonstrate not only lack of faith in the committee but also in the power and leadership of the Holy Spirit. ___ Don't heed or pass on rumors. The Baptist rumor mill seems always at work. It may work overtime in regard to this committee, and rumor and misinformation during the process of the committee could disrupt not only the function of the committee but also distract from the ministry of the convention. In such committees, the chairperson is the only official spokesperson. Confidential-ity is vital. Therefore, please heed only what the chairperson communicates and prayerfully await the final outcome of the committee's work. ___ Pray for, encourage and support the new executive director. Allow the person time to demonstrate what emphases will be made and what course of action will be taken before any judgment is made. Surely all members of the Baptist family of Texas will afford the newly elected executive director this opportunity. ___Please pray for the search committee. ___Pray for Bill Brian as he chairs the committee. ___Pray that all Texas Baptists will pray for, communicate with and encourage the members of the committee.
