Around the State
___Latham Springs Baptist Encampment will conduct its annual pastor/deacon retreat March 19-20. Featured speakers are James Semple, state missions director, and Russell Dilday, president of the Baptist General Convention of Texas. Semple will preach
RED SPRINGS CHURCH, west of Seymour, recently honored its members over 90 years of age. Red West, Jewel Heard, Pearl Moore and Grace Morris are faithful members of their church, which averages about 40 in Sunday school. Jack Bennett is pastor.

___Deaths
___ Susan Roberts, 99, Jan. 26. She was the wife of Cyrus Roberts, who was pastor of churches in Campbell, Floyd, Shady Grove, Kopperl, Big Valley, Bangs, Mason, Paint Rock, Cisco, Shallowater, Lazbuddie and Port Aransas. She was a member of Park Street Church in Greenville. A daughter; two sisters; three grandchildren; and six great- grandchildren survive her.
___ Glenn Willson, 83, Feb. 3. Willson was pastor of churches in Kress, Wolfforth, Abilene, Crow-ell, Am-herst and Thalia. He was a member of First Church in Wichita Falls following his retirement in 1995. His wife, Opal; two daughters; two brothers, three sisters; five grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren survive him.
___Anniversaries
___ First Church in Academy will celebrate its 40th anniversary March 7. Lunch will be served at noon, and a celebration service will begin at 1:15 p.m. Tom Henderson, pastor of Heights Church in Temple, will lead the services. Wayne Wester is pastor.
___ Tallowood Church in Houston recently honored Larry Bertrand for 20 years of ministry. He served the church as minister of youth before becoming the associate pastor for family ministries several years ago.

___ Albert Pessarra has retired after 23 years as minister of recreation at Tallowood Church in Houston.
___ Clois Smith has retired after 27 years as associate pastor for education and administration at Tallowood Church in Houston.

___ Russell Allen to the ministry at First Church in Taylor.
___ John Blaney to the ministry at Fairview Church in Austin.
