Opal Dilday dead at 91 ___BOSSIER CITY, La.--Opal Spillers Dilday, the mother of Russell Dilday, president of the Baptist General Convention of Texas, died Feb. 21 in Bossier City, La., after a long battle with Alzheimer's disease. ___She also was the widow of Hooper Dilday, who died 16 years ago, and mother of the late Don Dilday. Hooper Dilday served a number of Texas churches, and was on the staff of the BGCT for a number of years in Sunday school, discipleship training and church services. The elder Dildays had been married 55 years at the time of his death. Son Don Dilday also was a Baptist minister and was director of missions in the Tryon-Evergreen Association at the time of his death. ___Mrs. Dilday was born Oct. 5, 1909, in Memphis, Texas, and was a children's educational specialist in Baptist churches in Amarillo, Port Arthur, Port Neches, Wichita Falls and Dallas. She conducted many seminars for children's workers across the Southern Baptist Convention. ___For the past 15 years, she lived in Bossier City and had been an active member of Pilgrim Home Baptist Church of Ivan, La., before her illness prevented her from attending. ___Survivors include sons Russell and his wife, Betty, of Fort Worth, and Jim of Houston; a daughter, Ann Young and husband Mack of Ivan, La.; daughters-in-law Jan Dilday Everett of Montgomery, and Penny Dilday of Cedar Hill; a brother, S.D. Spillers of Newberry Springs, Calif.; eight grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
