Texan Bruce Greer joins Point of Grace as Dove winner ___NASHVILLE, Tenn. (BP)--Texas Baptist composer and arranger Bruce Greer won a Dove award from the Gospel Music Association March 24 for the musical "Mary Did You Know?" ___Greer, a member of First Baptist Church of Lewisville, created the musical along with David Guthrie of Nashville. It won the Dove award for musical of the year. ___Greer is a frequent collaborator with another well-known Texas Baptist, Cynthia Clawson. ___A group of women who began singing together as students at Ouachita Baptist University in Arkansas claimed the honor for group of the year in this year's Dove awards. The honor went to Point of Grace, a vocal group of four females. ___Jaci Velasquez was named female vocalist of the year, while Michael W. Smith, for the first time in his 16-year recording career, was named artist of the year, along with producer of the year and receiving four other honors. ___Among other winners: ___* Song of the year: "My Deliverer," written by Mitch McVicker and the late Rich Mullins, who was killed in an auto accident in 1997. ___* Male vocalist of the year: Chris Rice. ___* Songwriter of the year: Rich Mullins. ___* New artist of the year: Jennifer Knapp. ___* Pop/contemporary album of the year: "Live the Life," Michael W. Smith. ___* Contemporary gospel album of the year: "Nu Nation Project," written and produced by Kirk Franklin. ___* Pop/contemporary gospel gospel recorded song: "Testify to Love," Avalon. ___* Youth/children's musical: "2Extreme!" by Steven Taylor. ___* Spanish-language album (tie): "Libertad De Mas," Sandi Patty, Isaac Hernandez, Greg Nelson; and "Oro," Crystal Lewis, Brian Ray, Dan Posthuma. ___* Children's music album: "Veggie Tunes 2," Big Idea Productions. ___* Praise and worship album: "Focus on the Family presents Renewing The Heart, Live Hymns and Songs of Worship." ___* Inspirational recorded song of the year: "Adonai," pop quartet Avalon, last year's best new artist winner. ___* Southern gospel recorded song: "I Believe in a Hill Called Mount Cal-vary," Gaither Vocal Band, Bill Gaither, Michael Sykes, Guy Penrod. ___* Southern gospel album: "Still the Greatest Story Ever Told," Gaither Vocal Band. ___* Country recorded song of the year: "Count Your Blessings," The Martins. ___* Country album of the year: "A Work in Progress," Jeff and Sheri Easter; Michael Sykes. ___* Rock album of the year: "Anybody Out There?"
