True Love Waits rally in Austin April 24
___AUSTIN--Texas Gov. George W. Bush is scheduled to address an April 24 statewide "True Love Waits" rally at the State Capitol in Austin.
___The rally, anticipated to draw thousands of Baptist teens and their leaders, will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on the south side of the Capitol complex. The rally previously was announced to begin at noon and last until 2 p.m., but the times have been changed, according to Jane Wilson, coordinator of the event for the Baptist General Convention of Texas.
___The rally is intended to "celebrate the commitments made by hundreds of thousands of students concerning sexual purity," Wilson said.
___In addition to the governor, the rally will feature Voddie Baucham, an evangelist from Houston, and the musical group Nickel & Dime.
___"Participants are urged to bring blankets for seating because this is an outdoor event on the Capitol lawn," Wilson added.
___She also encouraged all youth leaders to send in the True Love Waits pledge cards, whether or not they will be able to attend the rally. The cards will be displayed on the Capitol grounds during the rally.
___Groups traveling to the rally may find lodging at Highland Lakes Baptist Encampment near Spicewood. Cost, including breakfast, is $10 per person. Contact Danny Dawdy, camp manager, at (512) 264-1777. Several churches in Austin also have announced willingness to house students on the Friday evening before the rally. Information is available from Bryan Hall, minister of youth at Woodlawn Baptist Church in Austin, (512) 442-7858.
