Search committee plans listening sessions ___The search committee to recommend an executive director for the Baptist General Convention of Texas will conduct listening sessions with leaders of a variety of BGCT constituencies during mid-May, announced committee Chairman Bill Brian. ___The committee will meet May 14, 17 and 18 in Dallas with directors of associational missions as well as leaders of Woman's Missionary Union, Texas Baptist Men, the Hispanic Baptist Convention, the Black Baptist Fellowship, ethnic missions and institutions of the Christian Education and Human Welfare coordinating boards, said Brian, an attorney and member of First Baptist Church in Amarillo. ___The committee also will meet with leaders of the State Missions Commission, the Christian Life Commission, the Baptist Standard, the Baptist Foundation of Texas, bivocational ministries, Baptist Student Ministries and BGCT administrative staff, he added. ___The committee has mailed a letter to all 6,500 Baptist churches and missions in Texas, Brian noted. The letter, addressed to pastors, invites comments, concerns and prayers from pastors and churches alike. ___"The committee has received many helpful, heartfelt and encouraging comments," he reported. "As of the first week of April, Texas Baptists from across the state had submitted 14 candidate names. ___"Although it is time-consuming to listen to and read what is on the minds of Texas Baptists, it is important to the search process that the committee know the heartbeat of Texas Baptists," he added. "The committee knows that many prayers are being raised, both for the committee and for the one the Lord has chosen and to whom the committee will be led." ___Letters should be addressed to: Search Committee, P.O. Box 30131, Amarillo 79120.
