JAMES PUCKETT (center) and his wife, Edna, were surprised by the gift of a new Buick LeSabre by the congregation of First Church in McKinney upon his retirement as the church's pastor after 20 years. Earlier in the day, the mortgage on the couple's home was paid in full by the membership. Puckett, who has been a pastor for 47 years, is entering a new ministry of intentional interims where he will assist churches in transition. | Group, spoke at Dallas Baptist University's spring convocation and received an honorary doctor of divinity degree from the university. ___ Jana Young of Dallas Baptist Association has been elected second vice chair of the board of directors of the DFW Airport Interfaith Chaplaincy. In her role, she serves as chair of the pastoral and personnel committee as well as a member of the executive committee. ___ The annual Wildflower 100 Bicycle Tours event, sponsored by Baptist Health System, rolls around again May 8. The event will feature something for the entire family, including a choice of six tour lengths, ranging from 13 to 100 miles. Tours begin and end at Rolling Oaks Mall in San Antonio. In his book, "Jesus the Storyteller: Relating His Stories to My Story," Harbour relates the parables to modern problems and everyday situations. ___ Richard Jackson was recently elected as Southern Baptist Business Officers Conference officer for the Educational Institution Division. Jackson is director of personnel benefits at Baylor University in Waco. The election was held at the organization's annual meeting in Dallas. ___ Stephanie Rogers has been hired as the family advocacy coordinator of the Baptist Children's Home Ministries' family advocacy program. The new program provides counseling and guidance to parents of children who have been sexually abused. Rogers will recruit, train and match volunteer family advocates with families in need. ___Events ___ First Church of Archer City will hold the 10th annual North Texas Evangelism Conference April 29-May 2. The event will be held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., and participants are encouraged to bring a sack lunch and sit under a tent that will be erected for the day. Tables, chairs, drinks and prayer lists will be provided. People needing air conditioning also will be accommodated. Groups are asked to call the church so that proper arrangements may be made.
