Juarez ministry planned in July ___MIDLAND--First Baptist Church of Midland hopes to show the "Jesus" film to 4 million people in Juarez, Mexico, during July, and they're seeking other Texas Baptist churches to help them. ___The Midland church is working on the project with Campus Crusade for Christ and Border Ministries Inc., a non-profit ministry created out of First Baptist Church. ___The film, which depicts the earthly ministry of Jesus as recorded in the Gospel of Luke, is a commonly used evangelistic tool. It has been translated into 425 languages and shown in more than 225 countries. It will be shown nightly during July in and around Juarez. ___In conjunction with the film, Baptist volunteers will lead vacation Bible schools, put on sporting events and offer medical and dental clinics during the daylight hours. Texas Baptist volunteers also will provide a variety of social ministries as part of this outreach plan. ___First Baptist Church of Midland has an ongoing ministry in Mexico, and Deborah Fikes, chairwoman of the church's Mexico missions committee, believes this could be a good opportunity for other Texas churches to understand the needs there. ___"I see this as an opportunity to communicate and educate Texas Baptists about the enormous spiritual and physical needs in Mexico," Fikes said. "My vision is that other Texas churches will be impressed to begin participating in ministry work in Mexico." ___For this summer's project, "the greatest need is for medical doctors and dentists who would conduct free clinics during the day and share the gospel with patients and their families while visiting the clinics," she said. ___Additionally, "anyone speaking Spanish would be able to help counsel and fill out response cards after the film is shown," Fikes added. ___Texas churches could consider sending teams of volunteers to lead other projects during the day, such as the Bible schools and sporting events, she said. ___For information about the project, call Dale Pond, minister of missions at First Bap-tist Church, at (915) 683-0650 or Fikes at (915) 694-8636, or send e-mail to dnfmissions@ worldnett.att.net.
