___DALLAS--Rudy Camacho will be renominated for the presidency of the His-panic Baptist Convention at its annual meeting in Wichita Falls June 28-30, announced Rudy Sanchez, pastor of First Mexican Baptist Church in Dallas.
___Camacho, who will complete his first one-year term as president at the annual meeting, is retired from the U.S. Postal Service and a longtime member of Calvario Baptist Church in Fort Worth.
___"Rudy is a very fine example of what we wanted in a president, and he's done a very sizable job," said Sanchez, who nominated Camacho last year and will do so again.
___"For all this year, he's worked unceasingly" on behalf of the convention, Sanchez added. "He's gone many places, met many people, sat with many committees and done a good job."
___Camacho is only the third lay president of the Hispanic convention, and that has been a bonus, Sanchez said.
___As a retiree, "he's had, of course, more time for the job than a pastor," Sanchez explained. "So, he has given himself unreservedly to being the presence on behalf of all of us in the midst of many committees."
___That factor is extremely important, for it has enabled Camacho to represent Hispanic Texas Baptists well within the Baptist General Convention of Texas, he added.
___For example, Camacho is serving on the search committee to find a successor for BGCT Executive Director Bill Pinson, Sanchez said, noting, "This is a big plus, and we look with favor on that."
___Camacho, a lay preacher, has served both Tarrant Baptist Association and the BGCT. He was a trustee of Howard Payne University for nine years. Since 1975, the Camachos have provided a scholarship at the university in memory of their daughter, Deborah Renee.
___Camacho also has served two terms on the BGCT Executive Board. He is a member of the BGCT Theological Education Committee, the Effectiveness/Efficiency Funding Committee and the board for theological education of laypeople.
___The Hispanic convention's annual meeting in Wichita Falls will be held at Faith Baptist Church. A Sunday evening worship session will precede the annual meeting June 27.
