Pinson leads prayer walk in Germany
___Seventeen Texas Baptist pastors and their wives, led by Baptist General Convention of Texas Executive Director Bill Pinson and Texas Partnerships Director Don Sewell, recently spent a week in Germany in a missions awareness tour and prayer walk.
___Their hosts were German Baptist churches in cities in-cluding Frankfurt, Munich, Weimar, Gotha and Weisbaden and International Mission Board representatives Steve Brubaker, Nick Howard and Rick Dill.
___The Texans preached in churches ranging in age from virtually new to more than 200 years old. Three Germans came to faith in Christ as they developed friendships with the Texas prayer walkers.
___"Germans are people with rich history but are in need of spiritual awakening. The churches desire partners in taking the Good News to their countrymen," explained Marty Akins, pastor of First Baptist Church of Snyder.
___Two of the Texas pastors preached in churches celebrating the baptism of four and nine people respectively.
___"Germany is basically a secular society with only 90,000 Baptists in 900 churches trying to witness to a population of 80 million," Sewell said. "So baptism services are very meaningful to church members. The new members share their testimonies and receive a special celebration after the service in their honor."
___"German Baptists are small in number but deeply committed to reaching Germany, and are asking for our help," said prayer walk participant Scott Willingham, pastor of First Baptist Church of Dumas.
