BGCT search committee requests input and prayers ___By Marv Knox ___Editor ___AMARILLO--The search committee to recommend an executive director for the Baptist General Convention of Texas desires both the input and prayers of Texas Baptists, the committee's chairman said after its first meeting March 26. ___"The committee wants and needs to know the comments and concerns of Texas Baptists about the search process," said Bill Brian, an attorney and member of First Baptist Church in Amarillo. ___"We know that thousands of Texas Baptists are praying for the search process, for the committee and for the one to whom the Lord will lead the committee," Brian said. "We are grateful for these prayers that are vital to the committee's work." ___The committee is seeking a successor to Bill Pinson, executive director since 1983, who will retire Jan. 31, 2000. The 18-member committee was elected by the BGCT Executive Board, which will vote on the candidate eventually suggested by the search committee. ___At its first meeting in Dallas, the search committee took time to get acquainted and elected committee member Ellis Oroz-co, pastor of Corpus Christi Baptist Church in Corpus Christi, as the recorder of committee minutes, Brian reported. ___Committee members also unanimously affirmed a commitment to confidentiality of committee deliberations and to communicating the committee's process only through Brian, its chairman. ___The committee expressed a "spirit of cooperation" and "singleness of purpose to know and do the Lord's will" in its pro-cess, Brian said, commending members for those commitments. ___"Committee members are praying for God's guidance," he said. ___"The committee will report regularly to Texas Baptists through the Baptist Standard," Brian noted, thanking the paper for its willingness to be the principal medium of reporting the committee's progress. The paper's circulation of about 170,000 readers statewide makes it "the most effective medium for communicating the committee's progress," he observed. ___To contact the committee, write to Search Committee, P.O. Box 30131, Amarillo 79120.
