___bluebull Chapel to honor Sloan. Members of the Baylor University board of regents have contributed $300,000 to fund the teaching chapel in a soon-to-be-built facility for the university's Truett Theological Seminary. The chapel will be named in honor of Baylor University President Robert Sloan, announced Chairman Fred Cameron. During the regents' spring meeting, Cameron was re-elected chairman. He is a partner in the Houston law firm of Fulbright and Jaworski. Three vice chairmen also elected are Hal Wingo, retired assistant managing editor of People magazine; Will Davis, an Austin attorney; and John Wilkerson Jr., a Lubbock businessman.

___bluebull Whittle gets NAIA award. A Wayland Baptist University student-athlete has been named as the inaugural winner of the NAIA's LeRoy Walker Sportsmanship Award. Becca Whittle, daughter of Gene and Rosemary Whittle of Gatesville, will receive the award at the Citizenship Through Sports Alliance Summit in New York June 24. Whittle has been a member of Wayland's Flying Queens varsity basketball team for the past three years.

___bluebull San Marcos exceeds goal. A contribution of real estate with an appraised value of $1.89 million has pushed the Academy 2000 Capital Fund Campaign at San Marcos Baptist Academy to nearly 160 percent of the base goal. The gift was made by Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Cummings of San Marcos. The gift, which will provide student scholarships and some faculty salaries, raises the campaign's total to $4.46 million.

___bluebull DBU graduates distance learner. Lettie Preston of Houston is the first distance learning graduate of Dallas Baptist University. Preston, a Southwestern Bell employee, earned the bachelor of applied business administration degree through interactive satellite courses and video courses, in addition to coursework on the main campus.

bluebull Hernandez to lead youth ranch. Baptist Children's Home Ministries of San Antonio has named Santos Hernandez Jr. program director for its Youth Ranch campus. He worked eight years as a caseworker at the South Texas Children's Home in Beeville and has been an adjunct professor at Hispanic Baptist Theological Seminary.

bluebull DBU honors two. John West, associate pastor at Prestonwood Baptist Church in Plano, and Orville Rogers, a retired Braniff Airlines pilot, were granted honorary doctorates by Dallas Baptist University during May 14 commencement activities.

The correct address is dnfmissions@worldnet.att.net. Additionally, several churches in El Paso have agreed to provide overnight lodging for volunteer groups participating in the mission effort.
