___bluebull Daehnert changes roles. Jan Daehnert has been named associate coordinator for minister/ church relations at the Baptist General Convention of Texas. He moves to the newly created post from being director of the BGCT's bivocational/smaller church development department. In the new position, Daehnert will work with Coordinator Dick Maples, with emphasis on dealing with congregations and leadership in conflict, mentoring and establishing minister/church support teams in churches around the state.

___bluebull Rogers to retire. Ed Rogers has announced his retirement as director of the Human Welfare Coordinating Board of the Baptist General Convention of Texas, effective Feb. 29, 2000. Rogers has led the board since 1994. His successor will be selected by a search committee made up of the executive director of the BGCT, the chair of the Human Welfare Coordinating Board, the chairman of the BGCT Executive Board, and two other members of the coordinating board. Rogers came to the post after serving 39 years as a Texas pastor, including 34 years as pastor of First Baptist Church of Dumas.

bluebull Search committee working. The search committee to recommend a new executive director for the Baptist General Convention of Texas met with more than 20 groups of Texas Baptists May 14, 17 and 18 in Dallas. The committee invited representatives from various constituencies to voice their hopes, expectations and concerns about the executive director search process. Chairman Bill Brian of Amarillo said the committee still is receiving names of candidates, with 20 names submitted thus far. Deliberations on individual nominations should begin soon, he said. bluebull McNair to head new HSU school. Christopher McNair has been named dean of Hardin-Simmons University's new School of Sciences and Mathematics. He has headed the university's biology department since 1995. Creation of the new school is part of an academic reorganization approved by trustees last month.

bluebull Churches sought for Mexico opportunities. Texas Baptist churches are invited to participate in an ongoing mission effort in Nogales, Sonora, Mexico, in cooperation with Casas Adobes Baptist Church of Tucson, Ariz. The Tucson church has a relationship with Primera Iglesia Bautista of Sonora, which helps the Mexican church support 76 smaller churches and 36 mission pastors who lead those churches. Current needs include workers for vacation Bible schools and evangelism, Bibles and tracts, construction materials, gasoline and financial support of mission pastors.
