___bluebull Tabernacle Church in Gainesville honored Odie Keener for 50 years of service to the church as deacon May 22.
___bluebull First Church in Garland will hold a dedication service for a historical marker commemorating the church's 131-year ministry May 30. The 5 p.m. service will be held in the McDonald Activity Center and will feature Pastor Steve Davis and former Pastor Roger McDonald, the keynote speaker. Former Pastor Charles Cockrell will voice the prayer of dedication. Guest soloist for the service will be Fritz Smith, former minister of music.

COTTONWOOD CHURCH in Glen Rose recently broke ground on a 3,000-square-foot worship and education center. Through the work of contractors and volunteers from the community, the structure is expected to be completed in July. Participating in the ceremony were John Adams, Pastor John Allen, John Trimble, Gusteen Jenkins, Daryl Beauchamp, Jimmy Branham and Ann Parham.
May 30 at Gaston Oaks Church in Dallas as the church observes "Baptist Distinctives Day." Lunch will follow the morning service. E.B. Brooks is interim pastor.
___bluebull Westway Church in Houston will hold a gospel sing night May 30 at 6 p.m. Featured vocalists will be New Beginnings, Gospel Starlighters, Mark and Kim Prause and Doug Schillings. E.R. McCrary is pastor.
___bluebull Sunrise Church in Kerrville will celebrate its second year of ministry May 30. Phil Tilden is pastor.
___bluebull Necessity Church in Caddo recently held dedication ceremonies for its new debt-free 4,500-square-foot facility. The fully carpeted building will house the auditorium, six classrooms, a nursery and pastor's study. H.K. Neely, a former pastor, preached the dedicatory sermon. Joel Sanders is pastor.
___bluebull Jim and Mary Burdett have been commissioned as Mission Service Corps volunteers to serve as church strengtheners in Big Fork, Mont. They are members of Trinity Church in Lytle.

___bluebull Dorso Maciel, pastor of Primera Iglesia Bautista in Laredo, will celebrate 40 years in the ministry May 30.
___bluebull Ridgecrest Church in Fort Worth will celebrate its 50th anniversary June 6. Former pastors Jack Adkisson and Johnny Hendricks will preach, and a barbecue lunch will be served. An afternoon service will feature the singing of current and former members. Kevin McSpadden is pastor.

Retiring

___bluebull Ann Pillow has retired after 26 years as kindergarten teacher at Ridglea West Baptist Child Care and Kindergarten in Fort Worth.

Deaths
___bluebull Wayland Boyd, 81, of Cordova, Tenn. Boyd was pastor of First churches in Lorraine, Rule, Crosbyton, Eunice and Clarksville, Second Church in Amarillo, Looney Church in Colorado City and Bethel Church in Anson prior to his retirement in 1980. After his retirement, he served as interim pastor of four churches in the Hawaiian islands. His wife, Ida; two daughters; one son; nine grandchildren; three great grandchildren; and one sister survive him.
