Olsen dies in Fort Worth. Frank Olsen, 72, a Fort Worth-based freelance writer for various Southern Baptist agencies, died May 15. Olsen worked extensively for the Southern Baptist Radio & Television Commission and completed significant writing assignments for the home and foreign mission boards. He also was the original writer for the first "Barney" videos. Services were May 19 at Broadway Baptist Church in Fort Worth, where he was a founding member of the television ministry and the Broadway Players.

DBU gets $250,000 grant. The Hillcrest Foundation of Dallas has awarded $250,000 to Dallas Baptist University for use toward a $6.3 million dormitory construction and renovation project.

San Marcos names McClintock. David McClintock has been named executive vice president of San Marcos Baptist Academy. He previously served in various administrative capacities with the University of Texas at Austin and within the University of Texas system. He also has served as administrator at Riverbend Baptist Church in Austin.

Smith also on committee. The list of members appointed to the so-called "slander committee" of the Baptist General Convention, as reported in the Standard's May 12 issue, also should include John Cash Smith of Orange.

Howard and McClung honored. Independence Baptist Association will present its 1999 Elder Statesman awards June 6 to W.F. Howard and Roy McClung. Howard was the longtime director of student ministries for the Baptist General Convention of Texas. McClung was president of Wayland Baptist University from 1963 to 1981.

ETBU honors two. East Texas Baptist University conferred honorary doctor of humanities degrees May 22 on Ronny Barner, retired minister of music and administration at West University Baptist Church in Houston, and Harlan Hall, music minister emeritus at First Baptist Church of Longview.

HBU names Woman of the Year. Jeanette Clift George, artistic director for the Christian drama group A.D. Players, was named Woman of the Year by Houston Baptist University. The award was presented during the university's recent Woman's Day Celebration.

Correction: Dallas pastor Danny Souder, new first vice chairman of the North American Mission Board, is not a member of the board of directors of Southern Baptists of Texas, as reported in the Standard's May 12 issue. He rotated off that board last fall. He also was chairman of the new convention's evangelism conference this month.
