Eight named 'angels' for criminal justice ministry ___DALLAS--Four Texas Baptists were among the "army of angels" recognized by Secretary of State Elton Bomer at the fourth annual Governor's Criminal Justice Volunteer Service Awards ceremony. ___The awards presentation was scheduled in conjunction with the annual statewide Restorative Justice Ministry Conference, sponsored in part by the Baptist General Convention of Texas and Texas Baptist Men. ___Noting that close to 25,000 volunteers work with the Texas Department of Criminal Justice, Bomer praised them as "unsung heroes who make a lot of difference in our state, one day and one life at a time." ___Bunny Martin received the Group Faithfulness Award on behalf of Reaching America's Youth and its "Just 4U Weekends" program in youthful offender facilities. ___Chaplain Hugh Atwell received the Hope In Our Hearts Award for his work directing the faith-based correctional chaplaincy program with the Tarrant County Sheriff's Department. ___H.L. Rowell, volunteer chaplain at the Tulia Transfer Facility, received the Religious Service Award. ___B. Anne Mooney from Buckner Benevolences accepted the Best Family Program Award on behalf of the EQUIP (Enhancing Quality and Understanding for Incarcerated Parents) program at the Gatesville Hilltop Unit.
