A prayer to comfort those touched by war
___This prayer was written by Gunnery Sgt. Ken Donaghy, a U.S. Marine Corps recruiter in Austin and a member of First Baptist Church in Wimberley.
___Father, we come to you, led by the Holy Spirit and in the name of Jesus Christ, setting aside politics and ideology to seek your face.
___Father, we gather at this time to pray for peace in the Balkans. We pray that every effort be made for peace where there is none, and to preserve peace where it exists.
___Father, we pray that through the blood of Christ, the traces of the past be erased, for this is the only way.
___We pray, Father, for restored hope in an area of the world which has been without hope for so long. We know that this hope can only be revealed in the person of Jesus Christ.
___Father, we pray for love to abound, because love is the basis of man's relationship with you, and of man with man, and of nation with nation.
___Father, we are very aware of the violence that threatens every human heart.
___Protect those who are menaced by war. Give wisdom to those who wage war in search of peace, that they may know and never forget your love for every one of your children.
___Father, comfort the wounded, the homeless, the dying and bereaved, and use all Christians everywhere to bring about your reign of mercy, love and peace.
___We pray for victory of light over darkness and life over death.
___We pray for our policy-makers and military leadership in areas of decision-making, planning, execution, mission accomplishment and exit strategy. We pray that they seek your guidance at every phase of this operation.
___We pray for safety for every active and reserve soldier, sailor, airman and marine that is involved. We pray that they have confidence in their training, leaders and carrying out their assigned tasks.
___We pray for the families of these servicemen and women in this time of separation. Provide them with comfort and understanding.
___Father, help us not to focus on this situation without placing it against the backdrop of the cross.
___No matter how hard this is to digest, we must, with your help, understand that this is temporal.
___We must continue to praise you, the God who sent his own Son and will send him again, so that he might be all in all.
___And that we remain a people set apart to focus on Jesus and worship Jesus from now to all eternity.
