___ Baylor University's Truett Seminary honored two students at its May 14 commencement ceremony. Scott Bryant, a graduating student, was presented the Seventh & James Baptist Church Ethical Preaching Scholarship for a sermon on contemporary ethical issues. He is interim college minister at First Church in Waco. Kay Kocour, who will graduate in August, received the Zondervan Award for Excellence in New Testament

FIRST CHURCH OF CLARENDON held a commissioning service for Earl and Sharyn Morrow as Mission Service Corps volunteers of the North American Mission Board. Their ministry will be itinerant missionaries for the Baptist General Convention of Texas. Truman Ledbetter is pastor.

Greek. Kocour was presented with a 5,000-page exhaustive concordance to the Greek New Testament. She is discipleship director at Fort Graham Church in Whitney.

___ Robert Tatum has retired as pastor at First Church in Crystal City after 61 years of ministry. His new address is 2711 Chimney Rock, Huntsville 77340.
___ Jimmy Turner will retire June 30 after 42 years of ministry, the last 11 years as pastor of First Church in Haskell.

___ Ray Suffron, Mark Rabalais and Steve Saubert as deacons at Bay Area First Church in League City.
___Deaths
___ Carol Hatchel, 91, May 6 in Tyler. Hatchel was pastor of a number of East Texas churches from 1926 to 1947, was director of missions for Smith Association in 1947 and 1948 and became pastor of First Church in Pearsall in 1948, where he remained until moving to Alabama to become director of missions of an association in 1953. At the time of his death, he was a member of Green Acres Church in Tyler. His wife, Treva, preceded him in death. One daughter; one sister; three grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren survive him.
___ Homer Starnes, 97, May 19 in Fort Worth. Starnes was pastor of churches in Aledo, DeLeon, Eastland, Weatherford and Wharton and also served as a chaplain in the U.S. Navy during World War II. After his retirement from the pastorate, he was senior adult minister at Columbus Avenue Church in Waco until 1988. His wife of 69 years, Alta, and one daughter preceded him in death. A daughter; seven grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren survive him.
___ Betty Mann, widow of Luther Mann, who was pastor of churches in Fort Worth, Midland and Colorado, died May 22. Two children and two grandchildren survive her.

___ Dallas Holm will present a concert June 4 at 7 p.m. at Colonial Hills Church in Cedar Hill. A $3 donation at the door is requested. Canned goods also will be collected at the door to help feed people in need.
___ Western Hills Church in Fort Worth will present the cantata "The Father's Love," based on the parable of the prodigal son, June 6 at 7 p.m. Admission is free. For more information, call (817) 244-0216. Dan Martin is interim pastor.
___ First Church in Academy will welcome back former member Lori Price, who has been serving as a missionary in Niger, June 6. She will speak in the morning service that will be followed by a meal. After the meal, she will show a video and answer questions. Wayne Wester is pastor.
___ Grace Community Chapel in Liverpool will be the site of the 1999 Harvest Crusade, June 6-12. Services will be held from 7 p.m. until 9 p.m. with a different speaker each night. Scheduled speakers in the order of their appearance are James Walcik, Rick Atkinson, Gary Lanier, George Wilson, Dennis Vosburg, David Jones and Bill Gilbert. Mike Terrill is pastor.

___ Jack Graham will celebrate his 10th anniversary as pastor of Prestonwood Church in Plano June 5-6. Special services to commemorate the occasion will be held at 6 p.m. Saturday and 9:30 a.m. Sunday. Annuity Board President O.S. Hawkins will preach in Sunday's 6 p.m. service. The church's choir and orchestra also will premiere music from their new CD "Soli Deo Gloria."
___ Toby Irwin, pastor of Hayden Church in Wills Point, recently celebrated his 30th year in the ministry.
___ H.F. Dearing will celebrate 60 years in the ministry June 11.
___ Country Chapel Church in Denison will celebrate its 10th anniversary June 13. Former pastors and members will participate in the morning service. A special ceremony to celebrate the burning of the note on the facilities is planned. Sam Trent is pastor.
___ Osage Church in Osage will celebrate its 125th anniversary June 13. The date also will mark the fifth anniversary of Walter Rose as pastor of the church. The morning service will be followed by a catered luncheon. Justice Anderson, a former pastor, will be the guest speaker.
