Around the State
___ Texas Baptist Encampment in Palacios recently dedicated the Orville Roberts Conference Building. Roberts supported the camp for more than 50 years while pastor of Almeda Church in Houston, First Church in El Campo and First Church in Wharton and as director of missions for Coastal Plains Area. The Volunteer Christian Builders and the
COMMUNITY BAPTIST CHURCH of Blackland recently held groundbreaking ceremonies for a new sanctuary. Pastor Tom Fields (at right,),trustees and building committee led members in the ceremony. The 60-foot-by-80-foot structure is expected to be completed by the end of the summer.

___Retiring
___ Gerald Chancellor, pastor of First Church in Seagoville, will retire effective July 31 after 47 years in the ministry.

___Events
___ The Oaks Church, serving southwest Dallas County since 1890 as First Church of Oak Cliff, dedicated its new 34-acre location in Grand Prairie June 13. The church voted to change its name June 6. Bill White is pastor.
___ First Church in Jonestown has acquired five acres of land, half of which was bought and the other half donated. The land will be dedicated June 27 at 10:30 a.m. Billy Johnson, fifth pastor of the church, will preach, and other former staff members also will take part. A luncheon will follow. Kevin Donahue is pastor.
___ First Church in Seymour will hold Billie Gene Duncan Young Appreciation Day June 27 in honor of her 50 years as the church's pianist. A reception will be held from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m.

___Anniversaries
___ First Church of Bacliff will observe its 50th anniversary June 27. Former pastor James O'Connor will preach. A luncheon and gospel singing also will be a part of the activities. Gary Sills is pastor.
___ County Line Church, between Athens and Canton, will celebrate its 50th anniversary June 27. Two former pastors, Marion Fray and George Folmer, will speak. Lunch will follow. Bill Thomas is pastor.
___ First Church in La Marque will celebrate its 60th anniversary July 4. Former youth choir members, directed by Wayne Doyle, will be singing in both services. A catered lunch will be served. Call (409) 935-2466 for information or lunch reservations.
___ Calallen Church in Corpus Christi will celebrate 125 years of service July 4. A meal, historic skits and a display of mementos of the church and its members will round out the day. People with items to share may contact the church at (361) 241-4272. Jack Willoughby is pastor.
___ Roger Braziel will celebrate his fifth anniversary as pastor of Graceway Church in Denison July 10.
___ First Church in Hull will celebrate its 80th anniversary July 11. Byron Reeves, a former pastor, will be the guest speaker.
