CENTRAL CHURCH IN HILLSBORO recently broke ground for a 43,000-square-foot building that will include space for a worship center, educational facilities and indoor and outdoor fellowship areas. Around the State
___bluebull Among Southeastern Seminary's spring graduates were Texans Michael Underwood of Fort Worth, associate of divinity; and Amy-Beth Erskine of Winona and Russell Minick of Dallas, both earning a master of arts in intercultural studies.
___bluebull Three Texans were among the May graduates of Southern Seminary. Receiving a master of divinity degree in missions, evangelism and church growth were Michael Thompson of Dallas and Randy Johnson of Wichita Falls. Philip Schroeder of San Antonio received the master of divinity degree.
___bluebull James Bryant, associate professor of religion at the University of Mobile, Ala., has been awarded the honorary doctor of divinity degree from Criswell College. Bryant had served as minister of evangelism and church organization at First Church in Dallas from 1968 to 1973. He also was pastor of Sagamore Hill Church in Fort Worth from 1977 to 1983.

___bluebull Park Cities Church in Dallas will present Christian recording artists Aaron/Jeoffrey and Nichole Nordeman in concert June 13 at 6 p.m. The concert is free, but a love offering will be taken. James Denison is pastor.
___bluebull Christian recording artist Steve Green will present a concert at Great Hills Church in Austin June 13 at 6 p.m. Harold O'Chester is pastor.
___bluebull The choirs of Spring Woods Church in Houston and First Church in Spring Branch will combine to present a concert of hymns titled "The Story" June 13. The first presentation will be at 10:50 a.m. at Spring Woods Church and will be repeated at 5 p.m. at First Church in Spring Branch.
___bluebull Long Point Church in Houston will hold a homecoming celebration June 13. Paul Stephens, a former pastor, will preach. The day will also include a luncheon and singing by the group Entrusted. Virgil Brown is pastor.
___bluebull Lakeland Church in Lewisville recently allocated $47,666 in excess funds to help causes nearby and around the world. More than $7,000 was given to the building fund of Highland Fellowship in Lewisville. Members attributed a message on tithing preached by that church's pastor, Dan Lancaster, as an impetus to giving that created the surplus funds. The remaining $40,000 was given to ministries which will aid the refugees of Kosovo.

___bluebull Louie Sluder, 80, March 4 in Fort Worth. A former pastor, he also was instrumental in the building of two homes for the aged in Austin.
___bluebull Guy Self, 93, May 9 in Waxahachie. In addition to being pastor of numerous Texas churches, he was also a World War II chaplain and missions director for Comanche County Association. Two children, three grandchildren and four great-grandchildren

JIMMY TAK receives a plaque from Roy Kornegay, director of missions for Amarillo Baptist Association, commemorating his being named one of 25 outstanding graduates in 1999 by the Distance Education and Training Council, a national accrediting agency for correspondence studies. Tak is assistant pastor for internationals at First Church in Amarillo.

___bluebull Carl Williamson, May 20 in Gun Barrel City. A police officer for almost 30 years, Williamson also was a chaplain. He served in Garland, Rowlett, Kilgore, Kaufman, Seven Points and Gun Barrel City. His wife, Judy; one daughter; and one granddaughter survive him.
