___ First Church of Rio Grande City began a mission in Garciasville two years ago, but the mission already has outgrown the facility. First Church, the mission congregation and other Texas and Louisiana churches now have worked together to pour the foundation, erect the structure, roof it, rough in the electricity, insulate and do the duct work. HILLCREST CHURCH IN CEDAR HILL recently broke ground on its new facility. Participating in the ceremony were Greg Mann, minister of youth; Stan Puckett, facilities; Makie Epie, mayor pro-tem; G.W. ___ Alta Vista Christian Academy in College Station, a K-12 school whose mission is to make Christian education available to children regardless of their financial resources, is in need of a portable building or mobile home for classroom space. ___ About 50 youth will graduate Aug. 17 from the Young Winner Leadership Training Program, which encourages sexual abstinence before marriage, at Theo Avenue Church in San Antonio. Baptist Children's Home Ministries, an arm of Baptist Child & Family Services, administers the program.
___ Fellowship Church in Grapevine is using a new outdoor automated lighting system to visually communicate the activities of the church. The Cyberlights system allows logos, messages, photographs and color patterns to cover the west wall of the church's 125,000-square-foot building. Pastor Ed Young said the lighting system will promote an atmosphere of excitement and anticipation.

___ First Church of Allison will dedicate its new sanctuary Aug. 15 at 2 p.m. A luncheon will precede the ceremony, beginning at 12:30 p.m., and a reception will follow the dedication.
___ First Church in Corinth will have a groundbreaking ceremony for its 40,000-square-foot family life center Aug. 15 at 6 p.m. The building will have two basketball courts, an indoor playground, preschool space, offices and Bible study rooms. The $3.5 million building also will serve as a worship center on Sundays with a seating capacity of 1,500. David Smith is pastor.

___ Glenn Howard recently celebrated his fifth anniversary as pastor at First Church in Mont Belvieu.
___ Old Concord Church in Greenville will celebrate its 155th anniversary Aug. 11-15. Along with the anniversary celebration, the church will hold a revival with Rodney Williams, Robert Baldridge, Bill Hazelip and Mike Windel preaching. Hazelip is pastor.
___ Lakeview Church in Vidor will celebrate its 50th anniversary Aug. 15. Gene Teel is pastor.

___Deaths
___ Joseph Buth, 78, June 19 in Haltom City. Buth was pastor of Texas and Louisiana churches for 35 years. A native of Gatesville, he also served in World War II and the Korean War. His wife of 49 years, Mary, and one daughter survive him.

___ Bill Thornton is retiring as pastor of Telephone Church in Telephone effective Aug. 29.
___ Robert Lacey is retiring after 47 years in the ministry, the last 12 as pastor of Hillcrest Church in Big Spring. A luncheon will be held Aug. 29 to commemorate his retirement. After retirement, the Laceys will reside in Crockett.
