Worship wars defy easy resolution

___GLORIETA, N.M. (BP)--How do you like your church music? Traditional, contemporary or blended?
___That's a question music ministers across the Southern Baptist Convention are asking as they struggle to appeal to the musical preferences of their congregations and reach out to the unchurched. There are no easy answers, according to Lee Hinson, a consultant in the music ministries department at LifeWay Christian Resources of the Southern Baptist Convention.
___"Worship style continues to be a 'hot button' topic in Southern Baptist churches. This discussion is affecting all sizes of churches in all different kinds of locations. If your church hasn't dealt with it yet, it will sooner or later, and you need to be ready," Hinson told a group of music ministers and lay leaders attending a seminar on "Transitioning in Worship Styles.".

'Water of Life' headed for Mexico

___More than a dozen rural villages in northern Mexico may soon have water wells, thanks to a partnership between Texas Baptists and other evangelical Christians.
___Texas Baptists' Christian Life Commission conceived the "Water of Life" initiative as a joint venture with the Evangelical Environmental Network, which is making a grant available for start-up funding.
___The well-drilling project involves the Baptist General Convention of Texas, the Frontera Baptist Association of Chihuahua-Coahuila, Big Bend Baptist Association and Mission Assist Team.

Kenya crusade: 22,000 conversions

___NAIROBI, Kenya (BP)--More than 22,000 people professed faith in Christ as Savior during an Eastern Kenya Baptist evangelistic effort in late June and early July. The outreach drew 332 volunteers from churches throughout the United States and saw 132 Kenyan congregations started.
___The month-long project was divided into two phases, each lasting two weeks. Teams were dispersed to seven cities or regions along the eastern coast of Kenya. The areas of concentration included Kilifi, Malindi, Magarini, Mombasa, Mitito Andei, Ukambani East and Ukambani South.
___Volunteers worked hand-in-hand with local Kenyan church members to spread the news of Christ's love. International Mission Board missionaries Clay Coursey and Jim Musen used the volunteers in direct evangelism and to help start new churches.
