GREAT HILLS CHURCH OF AUSTIN Pastor Harold O'Chester and his wife, Barbara, recently received the New Orleans Seminary 1999 Distinguished Alumni Award from Seminary President Chuck Kelly. The O'Chesters are the first couple to receive the award dually. The O'Chesters have been at Great Hills Church for 30 years, he as pastor and she as director of Great Hills Retreat, Southern Baptists' largest retreat ministry for women. The couple has raised money to endow a new annual week-long emphasis ond lecture series on the minister's family at the seminary. The event will be named in their honor.

___Retiring
___bluebull Dan Kent has retired after 19 years as professor of Old Testament at Southwestern Seminary. He previously taught at Wayland Baptist University. He also was pastor of Brandon Church in Brandon; First Church of DeLeon, Hampton Road Church of DeSoto and Calvary Church of Oak Cliff in Dallas. He will be available as a Bible study teacher and pulpit supply.

___Anniversaries
___bluebull David Elliott, moderator of San Jacinto Association, celebrated 50 years of ministry Aug. 17. He was pastor of Texas churches for 41 years.
___bluebull Parkside Church in Denison will celebrate its 50th anniversary Aug. 22. A commemoration service will be held at 3 p.m. followed by a picnic lunch. For more information, call (903) 465-1686. Chet Haney is pastor.
___bluebull Camp Ground Church in Alto will celebrate its 100th anniversary Aug. 28-29. The Southern Plainsmen quartet will begin the festivities with a concert Saturday at 7 p.m. Former staff and members are encouraged to attend. Curtis Oliver is pastor.

___Deaths
___bluebull M.E. McGlamery, 85, July 21 in Duncanville. A pastor for more than 50 years, he served many Texas and Arizona churches including North Dallas Church and Hampton Place Church, both in Dallas and First Church in Wills Point. His wife, Juanita, and three daughters survive him.

___Ordained

___Church events
___bluebull Ridglea West Church in Fort Worth has planned three family events for Aug. 22. The morning worship service will be the presentation of the musical "God With Us." The day also will be Teacher Recognition Day. After church, parents are invited to a family lunch and Smart Discipline, a free seminar for parents with ideas about discipline and self-esteem led by Stephen Allen, a licensed professional counselor. Lunch will begin at 12:15 p.m. and the seminar at 1:30 p.m. William Walters is intentional interim pastor.
___bluebull The drama "Heaven's Gates & Hell's Flames" will be presented at Lakeside Church in Dallas Aug. 22 at 6:15 p.m. and Aug. 23-24 at 7 p.m. This drama is designed to make people consider where they will spend eternity based on the biblical reality of life after death and beyond the grave. There will be free admission, childcare for birth through age 5 and special activities with a ventriloquist for children through fifth grade. James McGlothlin is pastor.
