FIRST CHURCH IN PASADENA held worship services in its new facilities June 6. The 65,000-square-foot multi-purpose facility is the first phase of an eventual 250,000-square-foot church plant on 49 acres. Included in this first phase is a worship center that seats 1,100 with Bible study space for 1,000. Former pastors Barry Landrum and Darrell Robinson joined Pastor Charles Redmond in dedicating the building June 13.

___ Mount Lebanon Baptist Encampment in Cedar Hill will hold a special friends retreat Oct. 1-2 for the mentally disabled 12 years of age or older, their parents and chaperones, and workers with the mentally disabled. A chaperone is required for every three or fewer persons. Chaperones should be of the same gender as the person chaperoned. Exceptions will be made for parents staying with children in the motel facility. A limited number of scholarships are available. For more information, call (800) 355-5285.
Anniversaries
___ MacArthur Heights Church in Orange will commemorate its 50th anniversary with a homecoming celebration Aug. 7-8. A watermelon bust and songfest will be held Saturday at 7 p.m. Harold Nazworth will be the guest speaker Sunday morning, and James Ivy will lead the music. A part of Sunday's celebration will be a note-burning ceremony to signal retiring the debt on the church parsonage. A meal also will be provided, and Lee Thibodeaux will lead an afternoon song time. Deaths
___ Irby Bates, 81, July 26 in Longview. Bates was pastor of churches in Longview, Dallas, Pittsburg and Atlanta before leaving the state to become pastor of a South Carolina church. He returned to Texas to become pastor of First Church in Gladewater until his retirement. Following his retirement, he was a development officer of Baylor University. Bates also served as a chaplain in the Army from 1943 until 1946 with combat forces in the Southwest Pacific Theater of World War II. His wife of 51 years, Virginia, preceded him in death. One daughter; one son; and three grandchildren survive him.

___ First Church in Newton will hold a "Call to Remembrance" Aug. 8 in commemoration of 138 years of ministry. Former pastor Shelton Simmons will preach, and Laddie Walker, former music director, will sing. Lunch will be served following the morning service, and an afternoon devotional service will conclude the day's activities. Pastor Emeritus Devere Sanson and former music director John Ebarb will lead the devotional service. Special music will be presented by Jimmy Langford and Jerri Hines. Bill Jones is pastor.
___ First Church in Dike celebrated "Independence Day" July 11, when its mortgage was burned. After a lunch and gospel concert, the ashes of the note were launched into space via a miniature rocket. Bill Ladd is pastor.
___ Audie Todd recently served in vacation Bible school at First Church in Groves for her 50th year.
