___Phil Lineberger, pastor of Williams Trace Baptist Church in Sugar Land and a former president of the Baptist General Convention of Texas, has been nominated to be the next

executive director of the convention.
___The BGCT Executive Board will consider Lineberger's nomination in a called meeting Sept. 14 in Dallas. If elected, he will succeed Bill Pinson, executive director since 1983, who will retire Jan. 31, 2000.
___"I'm very humbled, and I'm looking forward to the challenge that's out there," Lineberger said last week of his possible election. "I'm very excited. I appreciate the confidence of the committee.
___"I have great love for Texas Baptists. I look forward to what Texas Baptists can do in the future."
___Lineberger, 53, has been nominated by an 18-member search committee, which was selected by convention officers and the Executive Board.

Study finds evangelical
marriages share the load

___Conservative evangelical couples such as Southern Baptists live out more egalitarian marriages than their public rhetoric about male leadership would indicate, according to a new study.
___Likewise, conservative evangelical parents, while more likely than others to enforce strict discipline including spanking, balance that with more warmth and love than other parents, a related study finds.
___"The reality is that the family practice of evangelicals on the ground confounds the denunciations of left-leaning cultural elites and the proscriptions of evangelical elites," the authors report in The Responsive Community's summer issue.

Adrian Rogers will chair
Baptist Faith & Message review
___WAKE FOREST, N.C. (BP) --Adrian Rogers, pastor of Bellevue Baptist Church in Memphis, Tenn., and a father figure to many in the conservative movement that has swept the Southern Baptist Convention since 1979, has been named chairman of a 15-person committee to study the SBC's Baptist Faith & Message statement.
___The committee was authorized by messengers to the 1999 SBC annual meeting in Atlanta, acting on a motion by T.C. Pinckney of Alexandria, Va. The committee is to report to the SBC annual meeting next June in Orlando, Fla.
