Around the State
___bluebull Rick Gregory, president of Howard Payne University, will speak on the theme of servant leadership during the 1999 Staley Distinguished Christian Scholars lecture series at Dallas Baptist University Sept. 29-30. Gregory will speak in chapel at 10 a.m. Sept. 29 and will speak on several other occasions to different groups on campus.
___bluebull Latham Springs Baptist Assembly is the site for the Sixty+Plus Camp and Fall Festival of Music Sept. 20-23. Senior adults will hear senior adult choirs from Hillsboro and Gatesville, The Columbus Avenue Men's Quartet, the Singing Morgan Family and a Hawaiian concert by John and Lila Ward. ___Retiring
___bluebull Kenneth Cauthen will retire after 41 years of ministry, and more than 27 years as pastor of First Church in Warren, Sept. 26. Cauthen and his wife, Betty, will be honored at the church with a reception from 2 p.m until 5 p.m.

___Anniversaries
___bluebull First Church in Ore City celebrated its 80th anniversary Sept. 11-12. Former pastors participating included Michael Murphy, Roy Hall and Randel Trull. Former music ministers who led in services were Steve Slover, Roy Vardeman and Byron Jordan.
___bluebull First Church in Aledo celebrated its 120th anniversary Sept. 11-12 with the help of many former staff and members. Lee Brewer is pastor.
___bluebull Malcolm Bane celebrated 30 years as pastor of First Church in College Station Sept. 19. The church recognized him in the morning service with his longtime friend, Bob Waters, former pastor of A&M United Methodist Church in College Station, as the preacher.

___bluebull Dan McClinton will celebrate 20 years as minister of music and associate pastor of The Oaks Church in Grand Prairie (formerly First Baptist Church of Oak Cliff in Dallas) Sept. 26. A reception will be held at the church's temporary offices in Duncanville from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m.
___bluebull Memorial Drive Church in Houston will celebrate the 10th anniversary of its pastor, Robert Newell, with a lunch sponsored by the youth Sept. 26.

___Deaths
___bluebull Ruth Courtade, 87, Aug. 27 in Fort Worth. A Sunday School teacher for more than 60 years, she also was a conference leader and speaker for many years at regional Sunday School conferences across Texas. She was preceded in death by her husband, Arthur. She is survived by her son, David; daughter, Ruth Ann; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
___bluebull Doris Sluder, Sept. 7 in Simpsonville, S.C. She and her husband, Louie, built and operated two retirement homes in Austin, which they later donated to Buckner Baptist Benevolences. She also was a teacher and curriculum writer.
___bluebull Phil Dunlap, 45, Sept. 9 in Corpus Christi. Dunlap was minister of education and adminstration at Second Church in Corpus Christi for the last 11 years. He also served churches in Louisana, New Mexico and at First Church in Brownfield. He also taught as an associate professor at the Baptist Learning Center of South Texas. He is survived by his wife, Kay; son, Philip; daughter, Rachel; mother, Bettye; and one brother.
