___bluebull The Truett Alumni Association is sponsoring its inaugural ministers' conference Oct. 4 from 8:45 a.m. until 2 p.m. The event will be held at Trinity Church in San Antonio. The keynote speaker will be Buckner Fanning, and breakout sessions will be led by Bill Blackburn, Bubba Stahl and Terry York. The conference will center on practical issues facing ministers such as preaching, worship planning and pastoral counseling. Registration

FRIENDLY CHURCH IN TYLER recently broke ground on a 26,000-square foot auditorium and education complex. The estimated cost of the project is $4 million, but the church has already raised $2 million through the United We Build Capital Stewardship Program supported by the Baptist General Convention of Texas.

___bluebull Second Church in Lubbock broke ground on the church plant of its new location Aug. 22. The relocation is scheduled to take place in the spring of 2001. Charles Johnson is pastor.
___bluebull Oakland Heights Church in Longview will sponsor a parent/teen weekend Sept. 10-12. Seminar leader Jon Kregel will speak in schools Friday. A parent/teen seminar will be held Saturday from 9 a.m. until noon. A $20 per family fee will be charged. ___bluebull First Church in Ore City will celebrate its 50th anniversary Sept. 11-12. A fellowship time will be held at 5 p.m. Saturday, followed by an ice cream fellowship. ___Retiring
___bluebull G.W. McDowell has retired as pastor of Spring Creek Church in Meridian.

___Deaths
___bluebull Marlin Morris, 86, in San Angelo. Morris served as pastor of four West Texas churches before joining the Army Air Force as chaplain in 1943. In almost 30 years in the military, he served in Italy, Germany, Okinawa, Korea and Taiwan. He was a charter member of Northridge Church in San Angelo. He is survived by his wife, Guindola; son, Kenneth; and five grandsons.
