___ ETBU has record enrollment. East Texas Baptist University has recorded a 7 percent increase in fall enrollment this year, with 1,402 students registered. That's 101 more than were enrolled at the same time last year. President Bob Riley attributed the gain to several factors, including a new football program launched this fall and expectation of a new marching band program to be launched next year. This fall's enrollment includes 418 freshmen, the largest entering class in the school's history.
___ Wayland enrollment sets record. The Wayland Baptist University system registered 5,198 students this fall, an increase of 8 percent over last fall. Although enrollment has held steady at the university's Plainview campus, 11 external campuses have experienced rapid growth in recent years. A Lubbock campus, for example, has grown 58 percent in two years, with an enrollment of 562. The San Antonio campus registered 1,213 students this fall.
___ HSU enrollment gains. Fall enrollment at Hardin-Simmons University is 2,304, a slight increase over last fall. The university noted significant gains this fall in graduate student enrollment and in freshman enrollment.
___ Ribbon-slicing ceremony held. Baylor University's Louise Herrington School of Nursing celebrated completion of a $5 million facility expansion Sept. 25 with a "ribbon-slicing" ceremony using scalpels rather than scissors to cut the ribbon. The nursing school is located in Dallas, on the campus of Baylor Medical Center.
___ Corpus Christ alumni sought. Texas A&M University in Corpus Christi is planning an alumni reunion for all former students Feb. 9-10. The school began in 1947 as a Baptist university. ___ HSU dedicates student center. The Carleton Student Organizations Center was dedicated at Hardin-Simmons University Sept. 21. The center is named for Robert and Linda Carleton. She is the university's associate vice president for student development and dean of students.
___ Frampton visiting prof at Logsdon. Travis Frampton has been named visiting professor of biblical studies at Hardin-Simmons University's Logsdon School of Theology. A graduate of Samford University and Yale University Divinity School, he is completing his doctoral dissertation at Baylor University.
___ HBU opens dormitory. A new dormitory wing was dedicated at Houston Baptist University Sept. 20. The addition to the Rebecca Eleanor Bates Phillips Residential College for women is named in memory of Rich and Betty Mest of Eastman, Ga.
___ Preview day set at HBU. Houston Baptist University will offer a preview day for prospective students Oct. 23. For information, call (800) 969-3210.
___ Baylor professor indicted. A McLennan County grand jury has indicted a former Baylor French professor and his wife. Bruce Watson was indicted on 10 counts of possession of child pornography. Jessica Watson was indicted on five counts. The couple was arrested in July after a Baylor computer technician said he discovered nude pictures of children while working on Bruce Watson's computer.
