___ The Seminary Extension office is collecting information and photographs of Seminary Extension students, teachers, center directors and events in Texas in the 1950s and 1960s in preparation for a celebration of the entity's 50th anniversary which will be marked next June at the Southern Baptist Convention in New Orleans. ___ Charles Tolbert has been named chair of the department of sociology and anthropology at Baylor University. He succeeds Harold Osborne, professor of sociology and master teacher, who is returning to full-time teaching.
___ Bernard Scherr and Stafford Turner have joined the Hardin-Simmons University School of Music faculty. Scherr, assistant professor of music composition and theory, will head the composition and theory department. Turner is an assistant professor on the voice faculty. He has been the music director, interim music director or soloist at eight churches in Texas and Georgia.
___ Renee Collins, visiting assistant professor of education; Vicki Fehr, instructor of education; and David Stuckey, assistant professor of physical education, have joined the faculty of the Irvin School of Education at Hardin-Simmons University.
___ Howard Payne University has announced new faculty appointments that include Brooks Barr, associate professor of theater and director of theater; Scott Burket, associate professor and department head of exercise and sport science; and Pat Swift, associate professor of biology.

___ North Side Church in Weatherford will hold a women's conference Oct. 6-7 with Becky Freeman as the speaker. The conference will be held from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Friday evening and from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday. The registration fee of $35 includes a Friday evening snack meal and a Saturday morning continental breakfast and luncheon. A style show will be held during the luncheon. ___Deaths
___ Bennie Hindmon Jr., 65, Sept. 22. Hindmon was chaplain at the Wynne Farm Unit of the Texas Department of Criminal Justice. He had served in that role since 1995, when he retired as a pastor. Hindmon had been pastor of 10 Baptist churches in Texas, Louisiana, Arkansas and Venezuela. He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Virginia; sons, Bennie, Paul and Kevin; daughter, Victoria; and four grandchildren.
