___WINDSOR, Australia (BP) --Fourteen nations,
plus Aussies from all parts of the country, were represented at Windsor District Baptist Church's sprawling "Tent City" Olympic village in Windsor, Australia, just an hour from Sydney's bustling Olympic scene.
___The volunteers hailed from the United States, Canada, England, Germany, Kenya, South Africa, Japan as well as such Asian neighbors as New Zealand, Indonesia, Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand and Taiwan.

BGCT surpasses church-starting goals

___Texas Baptists launched 104 congregations in September as part of the Mary Hill Davis State Mission offering emphasis, surpassing the goal of 100 church starts.
___"We are very encouraged that the churches worked together to launch this number of churches as part of the Texas state missions emphasis," said E.B. Brooks, director of the Baptist General Convention of Texas Church Starting Center.

Evangelism event planned for Corpus

___CORPUS CHRISTI--A five-day evangelistic emphasis, "Celebrate Corpus Christi," is planned for the weekend prior to and the days during the annual session of the Baptist General Convention of Texas.
___Most of the activities will occur on Saturday, Oct. 28.
___The emphasis is planned by Corpus Christi Baptist Association with financial support from the BGCT's evangelism division. It comes on the heels of last year's successful evangelistic effort in El Paso, "Abrazando El Paso."

Executive Board approves changes in funding for eight SBC agencies

___DALLAS--Two proposals to reduce funding for Southern Baptist Convention causes received strong support from the Baptist General Convention of Texas Executive Board Sept. 26.
___The proposals to reduce funding for SBC seminaries from $5.3 million to no more than $1 million, to nearly defund the SBC Executive Committee and to completely defund the SBC Ethics & Religious Liberty Commission now go to the BGCT annual session in Corpus Christi Oct. 30-31.

Chairman calls SBC's claims against Texas study 'ludicrous'

___DALLAS--Some of the charges presented against the Texas Baptist committee studying theological education by Southern Baptist Convention officials are "ludicrous," the chairman of the Texas committee said Sept. 26.
___Bob Campbell, chairman of the Baptist General Convention of Texas Seminary Study Committee and a Houston pastor, presented his committee's report to the BGCT Executive Board. The report and its recommendations for funding changes were approved by a strong majority vote.
