More than 7,000 anticipated for BGCT in Corpus

___CORPUS CHRISTI--A heavy dose of much-anticipated business will be balanced with regular times of worship and reports from a host of ministries during the annual session of the Baptist General Convention of Texas next week.
___More than 7,000 messengers from churches across the state are expected to attend the two-day meeting at the Bayfront Convention Center in Corpus Christi. Attendance is projected to be high because of interest in several business items.

CBF 'welcoming but not affirming' of homosexuals

___ATLANTA (ABP)--The Cooperative Baptist Fellowship has adopted a stance against homosexuality described by leaders as "welcoming but not affirming" of homosexuals.
___The Atlanta-based Fellowship's governing board, the Coordinating Council, voted Oct. 13 to adopt a "statement of organizational value" about groups or causes it will fund.

SBC ends fiscal year with $18.72 million in extra money

___The Southern Baptist Convention took in a surplus for the fiscal year just ended that is three times more than the amount Texas Baptists are being asked to withhold from the national convention next year.
___When the books closed on the SBC's fiscal year Sept. 30, total gifts to the national Cooperative Program unified budget were $178.3 million, which is $18.72 million over budget.

___HENDERSON--For years, Bill and Melba Wilkerson thought they would put off becoming mission volunteers until he retired from his work as a family practice physician.
___"One day Melba said to me, 'We don't know you're going to live to retire.' And she was right, and we've given at least three or four weeks to missions each year since then," Wilkerson recalled.
