FIRST CHURCH IN PECAN GAP recently honored three women for 227 years of combined service. Honored were (seated, left to right) Ruby Deatherage, 75 years; Coye Reid, 73 years; and Ruth Fowler, 79 years. They were presented plaques and a cake, and the church celebrated their years of service with a luncheon.

___Deaths
___ David Whittington Sr., 38, Oct. 6 in Houston. Whittington was profiled in the Baptist Standard in 1990, detailing his need for a heart transplant. Many readers contributed funds to help make that operation a reality. Whittington was pastor of three Texas churches, Chester Church in Chester, Glendale Church in Houston and Memorial Church in Corsicana. He is survived by his parents, Arthur and Helen Whittington; wife, Becky; sons, David and Aaron; two sisters; and a brother.
___ Frank Junell, Oct. 15 in San Angelo. Junell was a former chairman of the board of trustees of Hardin-Simmons University. He was also a financial vice president at the school from 1952 until 1954. He was a member of First Church in San Angelo. He is survived by his wife, Maxine; sister, Elizabeth Baugh; two sons; and a daughter.
___ Jim Jennings, 93, Oct. 17 in Abilene. Jennings was a former member of the Hardin-Simmons University board of trustees. Jennings was also the 1989 recipient of the university's alumni service award and a current member of the board of development. In addition, he was a past president of the HSU Cowboy Club, vice president of the HSU Founders' Society, a past secretary of the trustees and a member of the Presiden'ts Club. He was a member of First Church in Abilene. He is survived by his wife, Hazel.

___ First Church in May dedicated its new sanctuary Oct. 22. Dan Connally, director of missions for Heart of Texas Area, was the guest speaker. Don Longoria, a former pastor, preached the dedication sermon. Dennis Hester is pastor.
