Texans asked to box up their love
___FORT WORTH--Texas churches have been asked to help Franklin Graham send 110,000 shoeboxes of love to children around the world this Christmas.
___The Texas contribution will be part of 4 million shoebox packages distributed this year through Operation Christmas Child, a ministry of Samaritan's Purse.
___The simple project, now in its eighth year, is promoted as a way for kids to help kids. Texas children and their families are invited to prepare shoeboxes filled with non-perishable Christmas gifts. The shoeboxes are then given to impoverished children in 70
shoebox
countries, largely through local churches and missionaries.
___Items to be included in the shoeboxes could include small toys, necessity items such as toothbrushes and tootpaste, school supplies such as pens or markers or coloring books, hard candy or gum, small gifts such as T-shirts, hair clips, watches, caps, socks, books.
___The shoebox and its lid each should be wrapped separately in Christmas paper and labeled with information about the age and gender of the intended recipient. Shoeboxes also may include a personal note from the children preparing the box and a photo.
___Operation Christmas Child shoeboxes will be collected at 57 sites throughout Texas now through Nov. 20.
___For the collection center nearest you, call (800) 353-5949 or visit the website at www.samaritanspurse.org. More information on what may be included in the shoeboxes also is available at the website.
