Stone retiring
___Bailey Stone, evangelism director for the Baptist General Convention of Texas for the last eight years, has announced his plans to retire effective Feb. 15.
___Stone, 70, joined the BGCT staff as director of the evangelism division in 1992.
___During Stone's tenure as evangelism director, Texas Baptist churches recorded three of the top five years in their history in the number of baptisms. The 69,266 baptisms reported by churches in 1998 were second only to the 69,944 in 1955.
___Stone led the BGCT evangelism division to employ its first female consultant--Debra Hochgraber with Women Reaching Texas--and its first African-American consultant--Ken Blake.
___Working with associational leaders, he also implemented a "crossover" evangelistic event prior to the BGCT annual session.
